Suriname: Relaxing and Swimming at Overbridge Resorts

This Sunday we went to Overbridge Resorts. Overbridge is a manmade beach in the middle of the Amazon, around 2 hours from Paramaribo. It is a little bit more uptown then White Beach, where you would be blown away by boombox battles all the time. Truus arranged for us to pick a decent meal at “Warung Sonate”, if you ever drive the “highway” pay them a visit and select a delicious meal. After we arrived we settled ourselves in one of the huts available. Truus arranged us a perfect view over the Suriname river, so sitting there and relaxing was already enough to do the trick. But were water there, there is fun. And although I had some bad experiences in the North Sea I got eager to get some of that fun too! This part of the river is secluded from the rest with nets. There are piranha’s and other fishy animals here that love to have ‘finger food’ as a meal. And you don’t want to give them that, right? After we spend some hours relaxing we ran out of our private stash of Parbo beer so we bought a few more bottles. They ask reasonable prices I would say (around 10 SRD). For that amount you would buy only one beer downtown Amsterdam. They also serve food but as we had our own with us, I didn’t need to try anything. On our journey back we took another road, the more scenic route right through Domburg. And I have to say, I love huge shopping malls, luxury and all that kind of stuff but Domburg, although we only stopped for a second, touched me in a very special way. The serenity but yet business, the countryside but yet a city crowd, I am not sure whether I am even capable of describing it. Whoa, why don’t you go take a look for yourself! Further down the road I catched some beautiful sunsets, pity that my friend is such a good driver and knows how to keep his word of getting us home before dark!
